French for All

Status:Active, open to new members
Leader:
When: On Tuesday mornings
Weeks 1 & 3
Venue: Porthcawl Football Club

Led by Jenny Worthington and held in Porthcawl Football Club, Locks Lane on first and third Tuesday in the month

We, as a group, like to think that our French u3a sessions, are primarily social events; but our aim is also to help improve everyone’s confidence to converse in French in a supportive environment. Those who attend want to share their love of the French language and culture.

We also believe that our group name, ‘French for all’ is inclusive and encourages those who perhaps haven’t practised the language since schooldays will not be deterred from joining us. The prerequisite is that everyone is willing to ‘have a go’. Rather than focusing on French grammar and written language our emphasis is on the spoken language. A topic for discussion is given beforehand allowing everyone to prepare what they want to say beforehand. Topics are often about our personal lives such as families and hobbies which enable us all to get to know each other better.

Following discussion time there is a brief break for coffee after which we are currently using a compilation of simple French stories which highlight new vocabulary and phrases and comprehension exercises.
